NEW DELHI: Huawei’s plan to create an alternative to Google’s service suite —
(GMS) — for its upcoming smartphones may not be good news for

users. What may appear to make matters worse for Google is that
has been spotted beta testing its own dedicated search app — the Huawei Search app — that is going to take on the Internet search giant in the most fundamental ways.
According to a report by XDA-Developers, a Redditor has confirmed that Huawei is hiring users in UAE to test this alleged app and even provided the APK file in the post. This app was then tested and found to be closer to being a search app that fetches search results including videos, news articles or images rather than including elaborate features of the Google search app such as Google Lens,
The report reveals that the Huawei Search app shortcut to see the current weather, sports, calculator and others. Under the Settings, the app is said to show search history of users, change region or language. It even comes with the dark mode support of EMUI 10, says the report.
As per the User Agreement for Huawei Search app, the users of this app are required to have a Huawei ID. It also says that the search service is “only available in the Huawei Device as an app or embedded search filed in Huawei services, such as Assistant (i.e. Search is not publicly available on the web).”
Last week, Huawei hosted its Huawei Developers Day Summit 2020 in China where it expressed its plans to make it without Google Play Store with its own
. At the event, Huawei announced that this AppGallery is now being rolled out in over 170 countries/regions with 400 million monthly active users (MAUs) including mainstream apps and services.
